I have not made this up: Lithuanians south of the Nemunas were called "Gudai" indeed. Here is the evidence again (Kurschat's grammar of 1876):
"...die in polnisch Littauen, südlich vom Memelstrome (litt. Niamunas) wohnenden /werden/ GUDAI ... genannt.."
First, I knew that prussian lithuanians didn't realised common nation with lithuanians.
I was fooled from young age with lithuanian propaganda. I can even quote these nonsecences, like "700 years of german pressure", "lietuvninkai dreamed about living together with lithuanians", "rebellion of 1923" etc.
Second, now I have no doubt about who were "gudai" from the point of view of prussian lithuanians.
