It's not finally proved that velykos came from slavs. There are various sources that mention people celebrating spring day of souls (vėlinės). There are some word in dialects which are made with suffix -yk-. So it's possible that velykos have Baltic origins.

laimykas - aitvaras (good spirit bringing treasure)
plutyka - pluta (crust)
saujyka - sauja (handful)
saulyka - saulė, sun
skylyka - hole (from skylė)
tašlyka - duonkubilis (derived from tešla)
terlyka - dirty place (from terlioti)
vištyka - višta (hen)

In pagan slavic customs Velik was connected with souls too. People believed that souls of ancestors travelled across the world and visited people.

It's even possible that slavs loaned velykos from balts.

I've noticed even before, that some lithuanians will do anything, that slavs didn't made influence. These persons will provide various etimologies to proove comfortable point of view etc. Is this hate to slavs so big, or what's the reason for this? Lithuanians were living side by side with slavs, Lithuania has longest border with Belarus even today. Are you professional linguist? Velnias, don't invent bicycle!
