Kūdikis today means baby, and here it was child. Babies doen't go to school...:
 


So it's semantic shift:

Kurschat (1883) has:

KUDIKIS "das Kind, besonders ein kleines Kind"
KUDIKYSTE "die Kindheit"
KUDIKIßKAS "kindlich, kindisch"
