It's clear that you can't learn Lithuanian from books, as I have had to find out for myself.

August Schleicher made the first linguistic field trip of modern philology. But still, as Friedrich Kurschat pointed out, Schleicher did not grasp the nature of Schleifton and Stoßton in Lithuanian.

His main contacts were Prussian-Lithuanian teachers in whose families he lived for some time.
