Raudona Gudų juosta tesėsi nuo Lietuvos iki Galicijos.

" Fuera los Godos! " cry still today the inhabitants of the Canary Islands to Spain's mainland. After 1600 years we are referring to the Spaniards by the name of the Goths, so important was the contribution of people of German ancestry who migrated to the Iberian Peninsula in the fifth century AD and have created a vast kingdom with a great cultural heritage especially from the point of linguistically.

In the previous post about the origins of the Goths, as we have seen, after the end of the Ostrogothic kingdom of Italy and the fall on the ground and deported to Constantinople of the main heirs of the noble families Gothic, the rest of the people was integrated into society Lombard probably with a subordinate role. The Lombards were tolerant of all people who participated with their Italian adventure, and allowed to Saxons, Swabians and Bulgari to maintain their traditions, they did so with the Goths. The existence of the necropolis in Italy cheeks and Lombard placed next to each other, as in the case of those Collegno in Piedmont, shows a close affinity between the two populations.

Toponymy reveals the many signs of the existence of the settlements on the Goths Italian territory, especially in northern Italy. In his Historia LangobardorumPaul the Deacon makes several references to the Goths with the term Gothi which is the word with which the Lombards called this people, which is the same term used by Tacitus ( Gothones ), it is probable, however, that they called themselves Gut-þiuda , Gudthjod , Gutans , which literally means "the people of God," Gudhūs , is "the house of God," the temple. The roots of god- and -gud place names are to indicate their ethnic origin revealed that the Gothic inhabitants, this root does not reveal placenames only in Italy but also European place names that are scattered along a "red thread" that traces the migrations of the Goths in Europe, from Lithuania to Galicia. In Italy we find placenames small gothic especially in the Po Valley aka Padania : in England we Gudo Gambaredo in the municipality of Bugginasco ( asco- toponomastico Germanic suffix), Gudo Visconti , Goito in the province of Mantua, Goido in that of Pavia, in the Emilia- Romagna areGodi in the province of Piacenza and Godo at Ravenna, and we have even a fraction Godo at Gemona.

Another useful clue is in the name of spreading Enjoy in Northern Italy (Veneto, Piedmont and Emilia-Romagna) and the variant Goths in Tuscany . These names are virtually absent in central and southern Italy.

Goths were a phenomenon that has left traces in various parts of Europe wherever they are established, both in the names that nell'onomastica. The Gothic influence is to be found in the same way that we saw in the Po Valley in the names of the Iberian Peninsula: Godos , Godiellos , Gudiel , Gudiellos , even nell'onomastica: Guzman surname is a classic of Gothic origin ( goths = good + man = man ). The place-names Gothic is also widespread in Eastern Europe and especially in southern Poland: Godów , Godowa and in western Godoviche , Godomichi , Godovytsya, Godovo . Even Gudas , Gutas , Gutans ,Guttans , Gutten , Guttens are clearly surnames of this origin.

Instead In the next post we will examine the genetics of these people and see if it is possible, albeit based on limited data in our possession, to arrive at a modal that identifies the genetic signature feature of this ancient people.
